It makes no sense whatsoever that a" CREATOR" would only communicate with a minority of the population then put the onus on them to convey this life saving message to the WHOLE wide world

i now find it idiotic that i could ever beleive the bible to be the inspired word of god.....,throughout the bible "god"has only dealt with a few of his favoured spokespersons to deliver his messages to a minority populace.individuals at first,..... then, patriarchs,nomads,a small nation,ignoring all other nations that had sprung up.......,abandoning his chosen nation,sending his "son"to a small nation, only giving them his pearls of wisdom,much of what was not even recorded for prosperity and remember he never wrote a word,it was left up to other imperfect humans to record what he was supposed to have said,just a smidgen......,again ignoring the bulk of humankind keeping them in ignorance of his plan for universal salvation,leaving it all up to imperfect humans to spread this message of salvation, whom he has already condemned for their sinfullness and disobedience.i just find it so unbeleivable.

in the 6000 years of recorded history only a fraction of the earths population,maybe less than a third have ever heard of the god of the bible, or his so called plan to redeem humankind ,thats millions and millions of people.

( india,arabic,afghanistan,pakistan etc.etc.).

You guys are missing the point. Starting with the belief that the bible is THE word of god. That has been proven impossible by archeology carbon dating and science. It is simply one of many ways man has tried to explain the inexplicable etc. If you follow the history of the bible and all the gnostic gospels you will find that the material that is contained in todays canon was written by mostly anonomous arthors which don't allways agree. They were written long after the apostles died (most of whom did not read or write). Paul was a hijacker of Jesus's teachings infusing them with his Judiac law, Pharisitical teachings and legalistic thinking. Jesus NEVER shunned or rejected anyone (even those the Jews demanded to be not spoken to.) Jesus best friends and equals were women (that bothered the deciples) and they were the first to go to him at and after his death and they were the first that he appeared to. There are no translations "from the origional texts" because they DO NOT EXIST!

The bible was put together by people who remembered the myths of preceeding religions. Christianity was built on these with an unforgiving god demanding blood scarifices (also predating christianity), rape, pilliage, theft and destruction. Just having the central theme of blood sacrifice is a basic pre-christian makes it no different than other beliefs. In Jerusalem there were so many sacrifices from so many kinds of sins, each with it's own animal that literal rivers of blood flowed from the temple. Gross. As if slitting the throat of some pigeon or goat or cow or bull would really make or even symbolize making a redemption is how far pagan-minded people were. Actually, doing this makes those people at that time were way more pagan than the pagans because that's where they got the idea----not god.

If you want to cherry pick Chritianity's doctrines or mix them up with the Jws or just cherry pick from JW doctrine. Be my guest. It will not make one difference in anything except in your own mind. What ever floats your boat.

My first reaction, "No, DUH!" If there is a god, who knows that it didn't communicate with other peoples. The Bible only addresses the alleged communication of the decendants of Abraham. The joke here is that EVERYBODY thinks they are the ONLY ONES. I worked with a gal I became friends with and she shared her greatist secret about a huge affair she had. She made me swear not to tell ANYONE. I was very careful never to mention this to any co=workers. I was at dinner with a few and the subject of her divorce came about and one of the other gals said that this gal had a big secret which this gal would not elaborate upon when ANOTHER person said, "Oh, you mean about her big ole affair?" She told everyone and made them swear to secrecy. Soooo, EVERYBODY knew, we just didn't know everybody knew.

Remember the scripture that says that "the stones would cry out" Luke 39:40. That would sure make a bigger impression than people vs people or one secret vs another secret. I say, let the rocks talk!!!!! I wonder what story they would have?

For me, at this point in time, I won't have any of it. I was in a discussion of "What is Religion" at the end we felt it more important to ask "Why is Religion". To explain the unexplainable, to know the unknowable. Then some human saw the power of it and it all went to hell in a handbasket.

i've been thinking recently that i should just disassociate from the jws and be done with it.

i've been straggling along for over ten years now without believing it so it's probably about time i made a clean break and moved on.. but i really detest the fact that the announcement at the kingdom hall no longer makes any distinction between those who are disfellowshipped and those who disassociate themselves.

what a sleekit way for the organization to disguise the fact that many people choose to leave of their own accord rather than being thrown out for supposed wrongdoing.

I don't know why anyone is moved to give them anything when you decide to leave. I guess we all have different ways of doing things. I simply never went back.

How did you visualize Jehovah when you were young?

i was born as a third generation (perhaps even fourth gen. but my great great grandfather never got baptized) jw.

i remember that when i was young, perhaps about five years old, i would think about jehovah as this big black ghost with yellow eyes.

to me he was quite frightening, and i was constantly catious not to piss him off.

I think there was some sort of picture in the Paradise book displaying god on a throne in heaven. Old white guy, long beard, crowned, long white robe and sandels. lines coming out of him made him emit light. I didn't really believe that. If you look at all the pictures of the Paradise book you will notice some very weird things you never saw before.

Should you ever tell tour aging parents the truth about the truth

since finding out the truth about the truth myself and having successfully extricated myself and my parents about the jw's, i find myself with a new dilema that being they still believe the bible as a literal book for their salvation as i has read all of thomas paines works and how the bible is not very good for the human family, as they are of advancing years would it be inappropriate to shatter their illusions of some kind of paradise and let them flounder in a moral precipice and wonder what their lives have been about.

on the flip side once their time has come how would i feel for not telling them their false views.

at the moment i am in the deist point of view, with a tendency of the agnostic, it is quite a dilema!.

My mom is gone now but she could not speak about anything unless it was related to the WT. I pretty much avoided discussing it but it really did drive me crazy. I asked her once what she would do if she found out the borg was a load of crap. She said she still would have Jehovah. All she did was study the literature and she had macular degeneration so it was difficult going for her. Both my brother and I tried to love her and help her in any way. Every day we'd take her out. If I was gone working I called her every day. Sadly she did not see the love in that. She only was disappointed in me that I left the borg. Just let them be and love them as you can. I don't' think there is anything worse than to know youve wasted your entire life on an illusion. I kind of think she knew that at the end and that was what stopped her from taking another breath. She just didn't want to go on.

it sounds like he had a larger audience that likely included his apostles.so, who is "this fold" he was referring to and who are the "other sheep"?according to wts doctrine, the heavenly calling (covenant) had not been instituted yet.

we don't hear about that until the last supper.

Disillnd Lamb. I had lunch with a former priest for 40 yrs. He said that in all his seminary studies there was NEVER a mention of the Gnostic Gospels. When Constantine gathered the bishops they cherry picked all canons that worked to unite the Church as a POWER. It wasn't about truth of God. They ordered all other tomes to be distroyed even though they were just as valid as the ones they chose. I recently listened to Elaine Pagels CD about the book of Thomas. Really interesting. The JWs study not to find Truth but only to enforce what they have been taught. I told him about a documentary I saw about the Vatican Library and I said that the church knows they are teaching crap. He believes they have all the lost gnostic information. The NWT says it is translated from the origional languages. Well there are NO origional writings even close to being origional...not even the dead sea scrolls....they too are a translation. AND there were up to 30 other gnostic writings (including the book of Judas which is a real mind blower) that were laying right with the copy from Isaiah. Hardly anyone mentions these.

i grew up hearing this all the time.

it made me wish my life away, not look at the small joys every day of life brings to all of us.

instead i looked at all the bad there was in the world, my life, etc and blamed it all on satan.

I relate. I don't really have motivation. I never really learned to celebrate anything in life. Just kinda stuck.

For those of you who inactive, but not officially DFd/DAd, how do you manage?

i read with interest the thread about how people who are mentally out yet still attend (some) meetings manage to do continue to do it and it got me wondering, how do those of us who are completely inactive, no longer practicing members of the faith, manage to pull off our new ex-jw life, yet never invite scrutiny or investigation from former friends, elders, etc.. take me, for example.

i've been out several years now, but have never officially renounced my faith.

i've never out and out called it a crock of shit to anyone who could make real trouble for me.

I finally just walked away. I am just trying to live and not be mentally ill. The last time an elder came by I was on my way to "church". My brother had just died. I told him that the bible says you will know them by the love they have.... when my mother died not one jw came to help or provide solice. When my brother died...same thing ...only I got a lot of help......from the United States Marine Corps (My brother joined the marines to get away from my mothers religion). How's THAT for love Mr Elder? I also mentioned that they do worship a trinity...Jah, Jesus and the Gov Body. He's never come back. That's the only conversation I've had. I don't care what they think. I do still love and miss the ones I grew up with. They don't love me back. When I see them or run into them I am always kind and respectful. I don't speak doctrines with them. They are mislead as I was. It's just very sad.
